Oakland is a fantastic place to live because it is right across the bay from San Francisco. It is a major port city for the Pacific Ocean and is located on the eastern coastline of the San Francisco Bay. In Oakland, the Jack London Square has a statue of the writer, who frequented the area. Nearby, Old town features restored Victorian architecture and boutiques. Near Chinatown, the Oakland Museum of California covers state history, nature and art. Uptown contains the art deco Fox and Paramount theaters, restaurants, bars and galleries. Oakland has great recreation, the Lake Merritt is a wonderful place to walk or jog, or to picnic and hang out. The farmer’s market is vibrant, and hiking in the hills is a great way to spend time outside with amazing views of San Francisco and Marina.

In Oakland there are so many diverse neighborhoods, from high end luxury neighborhoods to others great for college students and just starting out families.  

Jack London Square has lots of history and has changed many times throughout the years. The Jack London Square, which has also been called The Loft District, Old-City Produce, and Waterfront, is named after Jack London who wrote and lived here. The most desirable area in the Jack London Square is along the waterfront, which includes Embarcadero West. Most of the housing in this section is luxury condominiums that are located in high-rise buildings. There are also a few single-family homes that enjoy harbor views. The district center is comprised of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Streets and is predominantly a residential area made up mostly of condos with a few apartments buildings in the mix.  Nevertheless, many young families move into this area of the Jack London Square because it is safe, affordable, and close to good schools.

Lake Merritt neighborhood is considered the “jewel” of Oakland, California, is a large 155 acre lake located east of Downtown Oakland.It is the nation’s largest body of salt water within city limits. The lake provides for great entertainment and activity walking, kayaking, lots of restaurants and bars. Children’s Fairyland is right on Lake Merritt. The park includes several rides, a puppet theater, and magical keys. It served as an early inspiration for Walt Disney.

Fairview Park is a hustle and bustle of activity. It is the perfect neighborhood for college students, young professionals, and families just starting out. The University Of California Berkeley Campus is within walking distance of Fairview Park. The neighborhood is mainly comprised of small to moderately sized single family residences. Apartments, condominiums, and other multi-family homes are also located in the vicinity of this neighborhood.

The neighborhood Montclair is a fair size community of luxury homes. The Highway 13 runs near the neighborhood allowing for easy access to surrounding areas. Residents of Montclair like to enjoy the whether indoors and out. Great places to go are Chab Space and Science Center, Claremont Country Club, and Huckleberry Bontanic Regions Preserves are all within a short distance from the homes in Montclair. There are also several parks within walking distance of homes in Montclair. Marjorie Saunders Park and Merriewood Farm are two popular destinations for families with small children.
